It’s been ages since I’ve run one of these key summaries (cough, place-fillers) (which have no correlation to any actual chapters in the upcoming book). Anyhow, here’s a chance to list your top 10 favorites from the “Berlin” era—The Idiot to Lodger.
Here are mine. List extremely subject to change, except the first two:
Sound and Vision.
Warszawa.
“Heroes.”
Boys Keep Swinging.
Joe the Lion.
Be My Wife.
Lust For Life.
Subterraneans.
Look Back In Anger.
Funtime/Some Are.
Top: Regent St., London, 1979.
Quite hard, but here goes:
Nightclubbing
Sound and Vision
Warszawa
Subterraneans
Beauty and the Beast
Neukoln
Fantastic Voyage
Move On
Red Sails
Look Back in Anger
Could be many others though, but Fantastic Voyage, Move On and Warszawa would always be there…
Great list (to the bloggowner). I almost agree on that one, but would probably put in Moss garden instead of Subteranneans.
Boys Keep Swinging
Lust For Life
Nightclubbing
Success
Beauty and the Beast
“Heroes”
Moss Garden
V-2 Schneider
After that it gets difficult. Some Weird Sin and Funtime probably belong in there, possibly along with Sound And Vision. Maybe Warszawa.
This really isn’t my favorite Bowie period – I recognize how influential and brilliant the Trilogy is but it just doesn’t do much for me personally. I’m more of a rock and roll guy, I guess, which is probably why I prefer his albums with Pop to his solo work at this time. Also, a big fan of funk-influenced rock (Station to Station is my favorite album, after all) so there’s a lot in The Idiot that appeals to me.
My list besides sound and vision and warszawa:
Heroes
Always crashing in the same car
Be my wife
Fantastic voyage
Look back in anger
The secret life of Arabia
Turn blue
Tonight
Sound & Vision
Always Crashing in the Same Car
“Heroes”
Joe the Lion
Look Back in Anger
Boys Keep Swinging
Nightclubbing
Fun Time
Dum Dum Boys
Lust for Life
The Passenger
Fall in Love with Me
That’s 12, the Iggy albums are too good.
Well here we go
Heroes
Sound and vision
A new career in a new town
Funtime
Boys keep swinging
Fantastic voyage
Lust for life
Beauty and the beast
Mass production
Warsawa
Very hard to do indeed as it is such a great period looking forward to the next period which hopefully will start with a bang ….
Okay, I’m going to leave Iggy out of this to make it easier on myself:
Breaking Glass
Joe the Lion
“Heroes”
Be My Wife
Always Crashing in the Same Car

Beauty and the Beast

A lot of us have Fantastic Voyage on the list, there you go Bowie, put it on your next (inevitable) greatest hits album.
